Frequently Asked Questions

Making a new technology investment is a major step for most businesses, so you have to know that your suppliers are up to the job. Software development is no exception, and in many ways it's even harder to evaluate. But sometimes you can get a feel for a good software company by the way it handles the typical risks inherent in any project, so here are our most commonly asked questions:

Can I add more features while you're developing the ones we've already agreed?

We call this 'feature creep' and, if unchecked, it can severely damage the quality and delivery of your work. We ensure a rigorous design phase so that all your needs are identified upfront. When things change (which they do) we have a 'Request for Modification' process which allows all parties to understand and agree the impacts on the project.

What happens if my project developers are off sick, or away on holiday?

Holidays will be scheduled into the project plan at the outset. Unforeseen absence, for example due to illness, would be covered by other developers in our team - we always ensure back-up resources are fully aware of project status should they need to provide cover. On the technical side, our standards ensure that coding is not programmer-specific; this means the loss of any individual will not impair development.

What happens if I find key things missing, after acceptance testing, that I understood would be included?

Adding key features 'after the event' would have significant impacts on time, quality and cost. Our partnership approach to your solution will reduce the likelihood of this happening because you are involved from the outset. We have a rigorous design process and your job is to review it before we proceed to development.

If technical standards change, how will that affect my project?

In our experience this is unlikely to happen, even though 'internet time' seems to move faster and faster these days. We will normally be aware of changing technologies and would certainly discuss with you anything we felt might impact on your work or require a technical judgment call. In practice we will agree and fix version standards with you during the design phase.
